Siberian Wormwood

Purple Wormwood is a hardy drought-tolerant plant, so it does not usually require a large amount of water. During the warm season, water sparingly when the soil is dry, until the soil has begun to dry out again. In the winter months, avoid overwatering, as the dormant perennials should not be watered until new growth appears in the spring. A common mistake is to give too much water to dormant plants, which can lead to root rot and fungal infections. During the growing season, moisten the soil around the plant deeply, but then allow it to return to a dry state to reduce the risk of overwatering. A general rule of thumb is to water deeply once or twice a week, depending on the weather and the moisture levels of the soil.

Purple Wormwood (Artemisia globularia subsp. globularia) requires at least 6 hours of full sun each day, preferably during the middle of the day. Partial shade is tolerated, but the plant will best uniform colour and form if it receives full sun. During the hottest months of the summer, partial shade may be beneficial to prevent the plant from wilting or drying out.

Purple Wormwood should be pruned lightly in the early spring season to maintain its shape and control its spread. When pruning, remove only the dead branches and any that grow too far outside the desired shape of the plant. Care should be taken to avoid cutting into the main branches, as this may cause damage to the plant. Before pruning, inspect the shrub for any signs of disease or insect infestation, as these can spread quickly after pruning. After pruning, it is essential to clean and disinfect any cutting tools used on the plant to prevent disease and infestations from spreading.
