watering

Tall bearded irises need 1-2 inches of water per week, either from natural rainfall or from a garden hose. The best time to water your irises is in the early morning so that the plant has the day to dry off. Avoid wetting the foliage, as this can cause disease, and be sure to target the soil near the base of the plants. Additionally, taller varieties may need additional staking or other support to help hold them upright when rain or irrigation is applied. If the weather is particularly dry, an occasional deep watering can be beneficial for tall bearded irises.

sunlight

Tall bearded iris (Iris 'Champagne Elegance') prefers full sun, with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight on most days. To ensure adequate growth, keep the plant in full sun during the morning and late afternoon, while avoiding harsh midday sun. When grown in partial shade, the plant may lack vigor and fail to bloom as profusely.

pruning

Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Champagne Elegance') should be pruned once a year, in early to mid spring. Begin by cutting the oldest blooms all the way down to the bottom of the plant. Cut down any flower stalks that appear too long or are crossing over other stalks. If the foliage appears overgrown, thin it out by cutting back some of the outer stems. Make sure to leave enough foliage to keep the plant healthy and to provide adequate nutrients for blooming. Deadhead any browned, shriveled blooms to encourage the formation of new ones. Also check for any dead or damaged foliage and remove it. Finally, shorten any long canes and shape the plant to your desired size and shape.
